CALL TO WORSHIP

We gather in the presence of God, who is love.

We gather in the shadow of the cross,

            the sign of God’s love.

We follow Christ who invites us saying, “Come, follow me.”

We follow Christ who summons us to new life.

The summons is old, yet ever new.

God’s love is written in our hearts.

           Thanks be to God.

*HYMN # 333     “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling”

OPENING PRAYER

Amazing God, we thank you that you have shown yourself in

Christ, who shared our human life, walking the path of love

all the way to the cross. Grant us grace to respond to your call

and discover the new life you offer us. Bless us in this time

of worship, as we pray together, saying

THE LORD`S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; Thy

kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our

trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil;

for thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever

and ever. Amen.

LIGHITNG THE LENTEN CANDLES

(Four purple candles and the Christ candle are lit prior to worship.)

As we each walk our own road to Jerusalem, God may ask us

to do some strange things; things we would not think of doing

on our own. But because God asks, we will do them just as

Simon of Cyrene does.

Often these unexpected tasks open doors for us and help us to

live a richer, fuller life.   As we light our fifth candle, let us think

of the times in our lives when God has surprised us with a

special tasks and the wonderful results when we say, “Yes,

Lord.”

(Lighting the 5th candle.) Thank you, God, for Jesus.

(sing 2 times)           Jesus, I adore you, Lay my life before you, How I love you.

Let us pray:

Thank you, God, for unexpected opportunities to serve you.

Keep our eyes open and our hands ready to do the tasks

that you show us need to be done. May we truly become

the hands and feet of Christ in our community and in our

world. Amen.

THOUGHT for the WEEK

Today’s mighty oak tree is just yesterday’s acorn

that held its ground.

HEAVENLY HUMOUR

At a Youth retreat they were playing “Tri-Bond”, a game where you try to figure out the common denominator of three words which are given to you. The question was: “Progesterone, testosterone, thyroxin.” One teen promptly replied, “Books of the Bible!”
